Things to Check if Your Credit Card is Declined:
- Have you exceeded your total credit card limit?
- Did you enter your credit card number, credit card expiration date, billing address, and phone number correctly?
- Is your purchase outside of your typical spending range? Some banks will deny transactions due to security concerns.
- Does your issuing bank have special policies regarding electronic or internet purchases?
Common Decline Reasons and Their Meanings:
Do not honor: The transaction has tripped the bank’s fraud detection mechanisms. As such, the transaction may be a case of fraud.
Pick up card - SF: "Pick up card" means the customer's bank has declined the transaction as the issuer wants to retrieve the card.
AVS rejected: This message means the issuer declined to authorize a card transaction, usually because the address provided does not match the address the issuer has on file for the cardholder.
Invalid card number: The card/account number entered by the customer doesn’t match the number on file with the issuing bank.
Lost card, pick up: The card in question has been reported as lost by the cardholder. If in use, this is likely a case of fraud.
Stolen card, pick up: The cardholder has reported the credit card stolen. The issuer has denied the transaction and flagged the card for fraud.
Insufficient funds: There are not enough funds in the customer’s bank account to cover the cost of the transaction. Or they have exceeded their credit limit amount.
